Indie Bay is Supporting our NHS Heroes

In these testing times. It’s nice to share a little Indie love where we can, particularly with our lovely NHS staff.

As of Tuesday, we’re really proud to say we’ve done just that. We’ve teamed up with Gail’s Bakery, Ralph Lauren and The Conduit in an exciting cross-sector initiative to supply thousands of healthy meals including our delicious snacks to the hard working NHS staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Earlier this week we sent several thousand packs of our snacks over to The Royal Marsden Hospital at both their Chelsea and Sutton sites. The food is sourced by Gail’s Bakery who are cooking up end-of-day meals with lovely fresh produce which are then bundled up with our #snackswithbenefits and distributed across mess rooms in the sites. If this first run-out goes well, there are plans to extend the initiative to include further sites and trusts, bringing healthy, fresh meals to even more of our NHS heroes.

We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to contribute to supporting the NHS. Here at Indie Bay we can’t wait to see how all businesses, both big and small, work to gather to support the fight on the frontlines. We couldn’t be more proud of the incredible hard work being done at hospitals up and down the country, and we hope our snacks will help keep the doctors, facilities teams, nurses, support workers, and everyone else well fuelled.

Stay home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.

Sustainability at Indie HQ: First Steps

In the last quarter of 2019, we were joined in the office by our wonderful Indie Intern, Anna. As well as being a cracking addition to the team, she’s also very environmentally minded, and she soon set about improving the way we do things here at Indie Bay with a focus on sustainability.

Here’s a cheeky blog post from her, telling you what she’s been up to!

With the climate in a state of crisis, here at Indie Bay HQ we have made some changes behind the scenes in a bid to do our bit. From the outset, we would like to make it clear that we know that we are not perfect, but we are trying, and while we are learning and improving we would like to keep our Indies in the loop.

Materials:

We have made some changes to our send-out packaging. The vast majority of it is now recyclable or compostable. We bade farewell to plastic packing tape and are now using fully recyclable tape with a natural rubber based gum. Our old glossy stickers have been replaced by some altogether more sophisticated matte versions which are completely recyclable. It’s a good start… but that’s not all!

Food and Drink:

Rather than getting weekly Ocado food deliveries, we have signed up to Oddbox’s fruit delivery. There’s two big upsides to this:

1.We get to enjoy our fruit knowing that is has been saved from the bin.

2.We are entertained by the various shapes and sizes that get sent our way, as shown below…

employee demonstrating variation in size of produce from Oddbox, a fruit delivery service that focusses on sustainability

Annabel (smiling, wonky-apples-in-hand above) has said “goodbye” to her beloved bottled sparkling water and “hello” to a fancy schmancy Sodastream. Not only has it received a good review from Annabel, it uses recyclable gas cartridges to do its fizzing. We have also switched to fully recyclable coffee pods from our friends at Cru Kafe, and have sorted out a new food waste bin for the kitchen. That means no more banana peels being sent to landfill.

Utilities:

We’ve even gone as far as switching our energy supplier. We now enjoy our office lighting and PC power courtesy of Bulb energy.  As well as energy providers we’re changing our bank, as it turns out not all banks are as well behaved as they could be…

So, we have started taking lots of small steps towards becoming a more sustainable business, but know we have a long way to go. If you have any suggestions or feedback please do send them our way!

Taste of London 2019

This June we were back in Regent’s Park for our second year at Taste of London.

It was another jam-packed foodie fest over 5 brilliant summer days.

This year we brought our Indie world to the masses with our very own Indie Bay pergola, complete with beachy backdrop and deckchairs (cool, huh?).

It proved a rather popular space to sit down, hang out and try all the goods on offer at the festival.

Happy Snacking at Taste of LondonIndie Bay Pergola

We also saw the return of our ever popular Indie Cornhole. Participants had the chance to nab themselves a few free packets of indie bay with a well-aimed throw.

Indie Bay Cornhole

It was so great to say hello to you all in real life. We even bumped into one of our favourite Indies, Yotam Ottolenghi!

Yotam Ottolenghi

All in all, it was a hugely successful event. We managed to hand out a whopping 100,000 pretzel bites. In fact, we handed out so many we had to nip back to Indie HQ in Notting Hill to grab a load more. If you want to see what all the fuss was about then have a look at our online shop. Thank you to everyone that came down. We’ll see you again at Taste of London 2020!

Happy Snacking,

Team Indie Bay.
